For the history buff … a royal mystery?  This exquisite 1892 cordial glass, delicately hand-etched “G&M 1892” was originally thought to mark the wedding of an unknown couple.  Further sleuthing, however, suggests that it instead commemorates the union of the future King George V and Queen Mary (then Prince George, Duke of York, and Princess Victoria Mary of Teck.)

There’s just one catch.  The royal pair were engaged and married in 1893, not 1892, following the untimely death of George’s brother, Prince Albert Victor, Mary’s original fiancé.  (George clearly overcame any misgivings at being Plan B, and the couple went on to share 42 years of marriage.)

Mis-dated royal souvenir or mystery couple’s wedding keepsake?  Whatever the true story, this charming little glass is a unique conversation piece, in excellent condition.  Just 3-1/2” high, it’s a special find for the history lover, glass collector, or gentleman romantic.
