For the oyster lover?  A pair of elegant 1930s etched oyster cocktail glasses in the “Rembrandt” pattern (c. 1937) by Rock Sharpe.  Each measures 3-1/2 inches high and hold 4 ounces of liquid, making them an ideal and versatile addition to a gentleman’s bar cart.  (Martinis, anyone?)

The Rock Sharpe company, originally known as the Cataract Company and later Cataract-Sharpe, was founded in 1914 by Alfred H. Sharpe in Buffalo, New York.  The company didn’t manufacture its own glass, instead specializing in decorating and cutting crystal, purchasing blanks from suppliers such as Libbey, Bryce, and Heisey.

In the 1930s and 1940s, Rock Sharpe stemware became extremely popular and was sold in virtually every major department store across the country. Rock Sharpe crystal was known for its high quality and intricate designs, often featuring a characteristic fern-like leaf pattern and floral motifs.

Oyster cocktail glasses were originally designed for serving oyster cocktails, which typically consisted of raw oysters served with a flavorful sauce.  They were typified by a flared or V-shaped bowl and a footed base.
