For the outdoorsman … a Swedish World War 2-era aluminum army canteen with leather strap and metal carabiner for attaching to the soldier’s belt. The cover is made of traditional green wool felt, held in place by a single metal button clip near the mouth of the canteen.
This particular example bears signs of genuine wear and use, has a wonderful patina, particularly on the leather strap, and would look perfect perched on a library shelf or in a mountain cabin. There are signs of minor repair stitching to the wool cover, further adding to its air of authenticity. The machined screw cap, carabiner, and button all work as intended, there is no visible staining or discoloration to the wool cover, and the canteen is otherwise in excellent vintage condition. Recommended for display only.
Swedish M/29 canteens were produced in large numbers during World War 2. They were used by the Norwegian and Danish armies during the war, and were also given to Finland during the Winter War of 1940. The main difference the between the various types of M/29 canteen are the woolen covers, which came in various patterns, with the last cover made in the early 1950s.
